CMHK's policy is existing cards stay active as long as you can keep them topped up. According to a CMHK rep in the airport CMHK store, at least.
I'd better hold onto my card and keep it recharged then! Unfortunately, it is only a 3G card, and does not allow access to the LTE network. I'm not sure if I'd ever be able to upgrade to a 4G card later on; my distributor told me that they were going to come out with 4G cross border SIMs around June or July but that plan seems to have been halted.
