I looked at a random week in early April and found several options for 140,000 skymiles, including ones on VS.

I will add that the website was a bit balky. Maybe it's overloaded with people trying to change flights to the Southeast coastal states.
For awards it will. It will then require changing to AF/KLM/AZ and connecting through CDG/AMS/FCO to get to final European destination. They can't sell a revenue ticket like that though because of the JV and the agreement allowing DL to enter into a JV with VS for the UK.

As for OP question on flying different on the return, yes that's possible. Nothing requires that you fly out of the same city that you flew into. You can even book two separate one-way mileage awards. Although note that DL charges a EU origination fee if the first flight on the reservation is from the EU. Thus booking all on one reservation is best to avoid the fee.
