The last one would be my bet. Unfortunately not all employees are good at fully understanding the flight numbers. Sadly too many agents don't realize same flt number does not mean same plane, in fact a lot it's not the same plane.
That would be my guess as well. These "out-and-back" flight numbers are extremely annoying because even an experienced agent can be thrown off when trying to quickly decipher FLIFO.
I really wish AA would've transitioned to the LUS practice where the majority of their multi-leg flights really were operated by the same aircraft.
