Maybe you can access snacks on the 787 and 777HD but not on the regular 777 with the second J cabin. WifeLev went through a situation in PE where the FA absolutely refused to provide her with almonds and said donig so would amount to theft.
You can ask for drinks throughout the flight even in Y - just don't expect them to be very proactive.
Wait, is this a new enhancement soft of thing? Last time I was in PY (late 2014 I believe) there was a line in the menu saying that a selection of drinks and snacks are available throughout the flight. And I remember FA carrying the snack box to the cabin a couple times during flight.
Also on TPAC flights where they provide the mid flight sandwich, they usually leave the extra ones in the galley at the very back. Sometimes even when I am sitting in J, I go all the way back for those sandwiches
