How did the two men know who they were sitting next to? I'm sure a GA told them but isn't that some sort of privacy violation? Where did the woman end up sitting (better seat, F, comparable seat, etc)? It sounds like the two men were pretty consistent with their beliefs (no female FAs interacted with them) so the woman involved shouldn't feel like she was being targeted.
I would like know what United's policy is in these sort of cases. If someone is making a special request like I think they should also be willing to sacrifice their own seating choices.
I do think United could have handled it better by asking for volunteers at the gate or on the plane since the two men couldn't speak to women. I can even see UA being smart and making this a monetary gain by charging for special handling.
This happens quite regularly on TLV flights. Then there is the whole praying jib jab in the back galley.
