While I have not travelled to Australia for a couple of years, I suspect the OH will want to visit family members in SYD in the next year or two, so retaining GGL to enable us to get 2 F seats without all the hassle and stress will be very useful.
A very good QR J deal at the time to SYD/MEL would make me tempted to pay cash, however.
