On a recent 6-hour flight with just a "snack" back in coach, I brought out a bottle of very nice red wine, crackers, and cheese from a cooler (all brought aboard in a standard-size carry-on), and enjoyed a very appetizer to a larger meal with my travelling friend, which continued on into the flight (cold poached salmon, etc, etc) .

I really wasn't discreet about it at all. But I wasn't over conspicuous either. I just kept everything by my feet while I was eating.

It got some funny looks from passengers, and at the end of the flight, I passed the bottle, cork, and other garbage together in a opaque plastic bag to the flight attendant. She opened the bag and saw the bottle, wrinkled her eyebrows, but said nothing.

When the best wine they serve in first class is a crappy Mondavi, I am within my rights (screw the FAA) to enjoy whatever I want.

Screw the Hotel: YOU GET WHATEVER YOU WANT.
