The best place in my experience is the transfer desk. While I have been bluntly rejected at the lounge everytime I tried and have a like 1 out of 10 success rate t the gate, at the transfer desk they always took pity with me.

Your reference points are with a SAS Plus or SAS Go ticket? I would be surprised if 'standby for earlier flight' was denied when on a SAS Plus ticket, HBO and with available seats on the desired flight.
