I-70 does not close too many days out of the year. Oddly, today was one of those days. It was shut at the Eisenhower Tunnel because of too many wrecks.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is pretty much the world's foremost expert in snow removal.

I forget the exact statistic, but it's impressive the sheer number of snow removal convoys they have on 70, like one convoy every 10 miles, both directions.

Most likely, you'll be fine.

VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER--> snowplows ARE Emergency Vehicles! Think like fire trucks, ambulances, police cars. Stay clear out of their way and yield.

Now, for any Western Colorado ski resort area, the time period between x-mas and New Year's is the busiest.

I know on busy weekends, drive times between Vail/Breck and DIA can be up to FIVE hours on Sunday. Even worse on holidays.

X-mas falls on a Sunday this year. New Year's Day is the following Sunday.

EDIT TO ADD --> I'd say mid-week that time period, traffic will be very to extremely heavy.

I'd be willing to wager I-70 East to DIA will see its busiest day of the year on 1/1/17.

Enjoy!
