Not sure what you are defining by "down south" - Zika hasn't reached Southern Europe yet - it's only out west that it's a problem! [/tongue-in-cheek gentle reminder that this is not a N.A. forum off!].

If you are used to the 5* mega all inclusives in Mexico and the Caribbean, you should be prepared not to find that in Europe! A.I. in Europe is mainly (though certainly not exclusively) targeted at Northern Europeans seeking a value break. Quality therefore varies enormously. And AFAIK, there's nothing on the scale of the massive hotels on the Riviera Maya, for example.

A couple of good ones we've stayed at are Seaside Los James Playa in Lanzarote (it was much better when relatively quiet in January, compared to June, though), and Ikos Oceania in Halkidiki.

How and ever.... whilst if you want to go AI you can, I'd counsel against only looking at AI. There are so many beach resort towns in Europe, that independent travel is very, very easy. From cheap and cheerful like Benidorm, party central like Ibiza, classy on the French Riviera, to just really nice like the Algarve (one of my favourites), you can really tailor to your needs/wants.
