Good point about the mountain weather as I forgot to take that into consideration. I think my best bet is to depart from CHC. I'll see if it's possible to fly into ZQN but if not all will be okay.
With consolidators you may not have been getting a single ticket, but 2 tickets (JQ & QF) in a single PNR. At times I see a QF codeshare flight number on JQ flights. To me risk doubles/triples when using a consolidator

It will take more time to drive ZQN to CHC than you probably think. Or fly Air NZ ZQN-CHC or ZQN-AKL
