Tried earlier this year (when I had lost Diamond) to get an earlier flight CPH-ARN as I had short connecting time to ARN-HKG (same booking). Didn’t success at phone nor at check in – unless paying 100 Euro in fee (didn’t try at gate). The alternate flight had OK availability.

(On a side note: CPH-ARN flight was delayed 1:30 so couldn’t reach HKG-flight. Rebooked an TG, arrived 4 hours late in HGK and claimed 600 Euro for each of us)
That came out pretty well! I'd rather fly TG Y than SK Y!

It's stupid for SK do try to charge you that $ to get on an earlier flight - if they had done that then they saved ?x 600EUR.

Our situation was a bit similar to yours - we were at CPH waiting for the ARN flight - and our destination is Malmo. SK could have just let us off at CPH - but then they decided to pay someone to IDB to make room for us
