How likely will I be allowed to standby earlier ARN-HEL flight in cases like this? I am *G but no status with SAS.
You should do as follows:

Bid for an upgrade on SAS.com to SAS Plus (A class). Most likely a bid of EUR 45 will succeed; this will be clear approx. 48 hours before the flight. Upon arrival from HKG you go to the gate of the earlier flight to HEL - or alternatively in the lounge or at SAS ticket office - and ask to be put on the earlier flight; if seats are available you will get on the flight with a SAS Plus ticket.

With a SAS Go ticket you have zero chance of getting on the earlier flight.
