I think it really depends on your needs. Using the RR card to get CP is essential for us, but once that's done, we now appreciate the more valuable options that CSR provides!

For instance, we have had CP for the past several years due to BS flights by DS and CC spend (on DS card where I'm an AU). This year, we got CP for 2017 really early (May) because of a lot of travel.

So I signed up for a Premier card and got the 50K bonus. Due to my travel (on cheap WGA fares) and spending we were able to get a SECOND CP this week. For our family of 4, this makes us able to fly 4 for the price of two (and usually two on points!). It also allows us to buy tix for our extended family to join us on trips. So, from now on it doesn't really serve us to use the SW Premier card until the end of the year. We don't really need a huge amount of SW points right now, as we just don't have the time to travel even more.

When we heard about the CSR, we jumped on it and will move all our spend there until the end of the year. The 100k point bonus is a plus (Will use 45,000 points to pay off the annual fee and then see what we need to do with the 55,000 extra.) and so is the 3x dining/travel.

But flexibility is key. We can move the points where we want them (hotel, etc.) and, if we get enough, may "launder" them through Hyatt to apply to SW CP-qualifying miles next year.

It's good to have options!
