We don't have the blog but we certainly have more flights on those two airlines, particularly CX. QR indeed has a lovely hard product on the A359 and the soft product is excellent. For sleeping, however CX hard product is still superior IMO.

Is the soft product really that much better? AA service is absolute .... but the CY reviews seem to say its good but not great.
I used to fly singapore air back in the USAIR days and the soft product there was so great that it was absolutely worth going out of the way for. i am not sold yet on cy
I'm not sure what you're asking (I recognize you posted this in another forum first) or referring to. CX has a standardized hard J product across its entire longhaul fleet. It is called "Cirrus", and is a traditional reverse herringbone design. AA has too many long-haul J hard products for me to keep track of, but in general I consider CX to be similar to or superior to all of them.
Also, if you're comparing ORD-HKG, there is no AA competition. The only nonstop competition is UA. UA serves ORD-HKG daily with 772, while CX serves it daily with B77W.
And to get the same hard product on AA, you will need to fly their 77W (the product is a nearly identical build to CX). They have different products on each of their longhaul 772s, 787s, 767s and 757s. I've flown on each except the 767, and feel comfortable saying the Cirrus J (which is installed on both CX long-haul and AA's 77W) is the best.
One big benefit of AA is you get wifi on their 77W, while CX doesn't have it. But again, this is irrelevant for ORD since AA doesn't fly ORD-HKG nonstop. I think your best bet if you want AA is to fly ORD-LAX or DFW (shudder), and LAX or DFW-HKG on the new AA 77W service. Both those flights have wifi and since they're AA's 77W they have the identical hard product to CX. I don't have as much experience on the AA 77W, but service was poor IME as was food. You do get PJs and a bed cover on AA's 77W J, which you don't get on CX. But CX has a comfier pillow and duvet IMO.
I've read that AA is now installing a new seat on 787s and 772s, which will be similar to QR. This has pros and cons vs Cirrus J but it's in the same league, if not slightly better.

I think QR serves the same, if not more, N.A. destinations with A359 than Europe. QR serves BOS, PHL and JFK each with A359.
However, somewhat ironically, the port the OP talks about - ORD - is served by 77W. Which has a hard product which is absolutely inferior to CX's 77W, no questions asked IMO. This is exacerbated if you're traveling solo, like I frequently am. To the OP: you should google search for Qatar B777-300ER (B77W) business class. That's what serves ORD. Not only is the routing insanely inefficient to go ORD-DOH-HKG, but you're stuck on that QR J old class for 12+ hours for the long leg. The soft product is still very lovely (catering and whatnot), but the hard product sucks if you're traveling alone. This is especially true if you're in the window or window-side aisle, because either you're having to climb over your seat partner or you're getting climbed over and woken up. (if you're traveling with a friend, spouse, etc., then this would be a much smaller issue presumably).
I'll also add this is when a la carte dining on QR is a major downside....when your seat partner, who you don't know, eats 4 meals during the flight and clangs his plates with his silverware a lot. I had this happen to me in May and it I really couldn't sleep. If your seat partner is a hungry fellow expect to be disturbed a lot. It doesn't help that they're basically sitting over you with very little privacy. Count me as someone who is not a fan at all. In my mind QR's 77W business class isn't even in the same league as the top notch business classes globally, which either have reverse herringbone (like CX fleetwide, AA 77W, Eva, etc.), that B/E Aerospace Diamond thing on QR, which gives you a roomier area by your upper torso at the expense of the larger footwell (the TV doesn't swivel out but it's in place), or the thing that JAL uses in their 77W and 787s. These three seat designs (the first two being somewhat similar) are, IMO, the best J class out there. And QR falls quite short in the 77W hard product.
The QR A359, on the other hand, is a lovely experience (as is their A380 and B787, the latter serves HKG-DOH 2x daily).
