Check bags for international flight from stopover airport?

Hi everyone,

Question about checking bags for a weird situation with an international trip:

I'm traveling to Sydney, Australia from Seattle. I'm traveling SEA-SFO-SYD.

I live in San Francisco, though. Therefore, earlier in the day I'm flying from SFO-SEA to begin my flight in Seattle. This SFO-SEA reservation is *not* associated with my international trip. I have a two-hour layover between my arrival into Seattle and my departure from Seattle for the international trip.

Can I check my bags through to Sydney at SFO when I check in for my SFO-SEA flight? Again-this flight is not part of my international reservation.

Otherwise, do I have to exit security in Seattle, claim my bags, then re-check them and go through security again? I just realized this, so I'm considering changing my layover to something more than two hours in case of delays.
