Is the soft product really that much better? AA service is absolute .... but the CY reviews seem to say its good but not great.

I used to fly singapore air back in the USAIR days and the soft product there was so great that it was absolutely worth going out of the way for. i am not sold yet on cy
I have not had the pleasure of cathay j for about 3 years but it was the 777-300 lax- hkg and back . the service and food were underwhelming, more like a premium economy. certainly not any feeling of getting treated special like we always hope for in a business class cabin.reasonable requests , like for more water, went unanswered.

just a face in the crowd.
the lie flat seats with the armrest that rests flush with seats were wonderful.
the AVOD was among the best i experienced with complete seasons of popular tv shows. the size of the screens i don't remember.
if you have a chance to take the a350 on qatar, do it. or the new AA business on the 773, 772,787, or 789 go for it. its got to be better than CX business.
to be fair, CX may have improved since 2013. so somebody who has taken them more recently can perhaps comment with more authority.
happy travels !
