If the question had been meant rhetorically, then the following:

1. The point raised to me was this. The port of entry/exit and country of origin are the same, which appears to violate the spirit of TWOV, in his view.

2. While I've traveled extensively, I'm neither an expert in traveling to the PRC, nor do I have experience with TWOV.

3. Whenever I'm in doubt with anything regarding the law, however superfluous it may appear to others, I always double check or seek a second opinion. I've learned the hard way that "ignorance" is never a viable defense.

Finally, I rather just ask the question here, have it answered by someone on FT, who are often experts in travel and have first hand experience. I wanted to be as certain as possible that I would not unwittingly violate any laws of a country where I'm planning travel.
No; your origin is Hong Kong, and your destination is the USA. This IS compliant... full stop.

I'm now fine with evaluating individual itineraries because others convinced me that the yes/no opinion is pretty easy to offer, but we always appreciate advice on how to improve the wiki post in order to preempt such questions. We would like the wiki post to: 1) be crystal clear; 2) provide the most vital information up front. The fact that it did not sufficiently answer your question is proof that we need to give it a makeover. Please provide us with specific feedback on this front when you have a chance. You are also welcome to edit the wiki post yourself.
