Don't forget some status passengers are possibly some of BA's least profitable customers. For instance TP-runners spending £2-3K to get Gold status over many flights clearly aren't commercially rewarding for an airline. No criticism of TP-running, just an observation! A non-status £800 return in Y to Orlando however is probably more profitable. Also, aren't rewards for Golds/Silvers built into their membership level anyway?
