The seat block is still in force, but doesn't show in a generic GDS seat map (like EF) if someone is in the process of buying a ticket and has indicated what booking class/fare s/he is purchasing and what status s/he holds, the seatmap changes dynamically and shows different 'free' seats.

But it doesn't exclude that EF shows blocked seats next to a status pax - and in fact this is what it did for all my US-bound flights. Also, theoretical seating works for all LH flights, right? In which case, the video or the mere existence of theoretical seating does not explain why I can see the blocked seats when flying to the US but not when flying to the Middle East.
