I can only imagine how infuriating this must have been. As, scottishpoet correctly stated, check-in at LHR closes 45 minutes before the flight departure time so you must have missed it by a matter of seconds.

You will be able to claim back government taxes and airport charges minus BA's service fee. It won't amount to very much I'm afraid.
