That's a great question! The answer, if I'm honest, is I'm not 100% sure. I used a balance-free TD Visa to try it out and see if the charge comes through as a cash advance. Worst case is it'll cost me $3.50 and a couple of days' worth of interest to find out. It's a financial burden I'm happy to take for the benefit of the FT community
I did call the TD Visa centre to see how the charge is categorized, and they said there's no category associated with it so far. They seemed to suggest that's a little out of the ordinary; typically pending charges are categorized, but this one isn't. Once it posts, we'll know for sure.
The agent did say it "looks like a cash-like charge," so if that's the case, there's obviously no use paying for load-ins with a credit card.
