I am a Japanese living in the suburbs of Tokyo.

I would go to Tokyo Station by Shinkansen, and then transfer to Ueno-Tokyo Line and ride four or five minutes to Ueno with no stops in between. Plus the platforms of Hokuriku Shinkansen and the Ueno-Tokyo Line are adjacent, the same ground level. While in Ueno, platforms of Shinkansen are deep underground on B4 level.
