My rule of thumb test is that if you can get 3 pence value per Avios then it's a really good use of them, 2 pence is still good. Part pay is around 0.667 UK pence (normally) so that isn't good, though sometimes there is a promotion which brings it up to 1 UK penny or more. Best uses? RFS on busy days, Gold Priority Rewards in the middle of school holidays or ski weekends, UuA from WTP to CW, and single trips where you can't use the Saturday Night fares to get a good return fare. My best use was to one of the Greek islands. I spent £50 and 34k Avios rather than £1200 for CE (and ET was around £900), which was 3.4 pence per Avios, though I've had some 4+ pence trips on smaller cash amounts.
