The irony is that nowadays IB probably has the best long-haul Y product of any EU airline, but the reputation that IB is sh*t undoubtedly persists among many people.
Agree and their J product in long haul has also received plaudits- and yet they have an image problem that will take several more years to change. Similarly US carriers have a dreadful reputation, but there are now at least as many people that prefer AA to BA for TATL in any class.
BA is the opposite. It trades on its good rep even though the reality is increasingly far removed from the reputation. Once the bad rep is entrenched then it will take a while to get rid of it. How that is all reflected in £ terms remains to be seen.
