Have to say it sounds a bit weird in a CE flt. You will notice when travelling F or J, that when the cabin crew come round asking about your meal preferences it is not done, by seat number. Instead the purser will know who the golds/full fares are etc....and will ask them first. Upgrades and staff are left to the end. (and rightly so..before anyone kicks off)

Ironically, the only time I've actually paid for CW, rather than an MFU or opup, I was asked last for food and didn't get my meal choice. This was on a 1/3 full flight to Newark although I didn't really mind as my second choice was pretty good too, i just had to pick around the mushrooms (they're evil).
