Small child's clothing will be "small." When my kids were little they only used a roll aboard sized bag that we checked. No way do you need a dedicated full sized bag for the child. Depending on the age (Kindergarten and up) of the child, the roll aboard size was manageable for them to drag away from baggage claim. We helped only at the escalators.
