the incentive to stay wld be the best leveraged upgrades program, with the best benefits, and have the highest status, lifetime RA.

with Lifetime RA, i wouldn't stay at a Hilton with Diamond, nor others, unless real shoddy IC, eg in Tampa. YMMV.

why do you think all their competitors offer lifetime status, Hilton, Marriott/SPG, Hyatt?

they're not doing it for the love of it, they're doing it because they've analysed their numbers, analysed their customers, consumer buyer behaviour, and made strategic calls based on projected increased revenue/profitability. and they've retained that policy because it's delivered for them, it's resulted in increased profitability, if not, they'd drop it.
