Welcome and sorry to hear about your painful experience. I could not believe the check in charge was £65 but the BA site does confirm this is the price at airport for the first piece LCY-IOM

Given the limited choice of LCY(BA) or LGW(EZ) you might be best to accept this as a learning experience.
