The Japanese iPhone 7 has these bands that the American iPhone 7 doesn't have:
FDD-LTE bands 11, 21
And it's missing these bands that the American iPhone does have:
CDMA EV-DO Rev. A 1700/2100
I checked this website and found it has at least one CDMA frequency, but not sure it's useful in the USA - so apparently the Japanese model would only work best on ATT/TMobile in the USA.
