Holiday Inn Express Düsseldorf - Decent basic hotel in a good location
Check In Check in was efficient. Â Staff were friendly and polite and fluent in English (which put to shame my very basic German) an there was no real wait to be seen. Room Room had basic furniture (double bed, a desk, television and a couch) but it was all in good condition and seemed fairly new. Â The mattress was very hard, although I still got a reasonable night's sleep. The bathroom is quite small but there's a walk-in shower with good temperature controls. Â I did find the sink to be very high though, certainly too high for me to wash my face easily. There is air conditioning but it's not particularly effective. Â The temperature was fine while I was there but I suspect that in very hot weather it's not going to be up to the job.Sound-proofing is decent - no noise from the street and I only heard one very loud conversation in the corridor. There's an in-room safe (reception has its own safe as well if you want extra security) and tea and coffee is available in room. Dining The room rate includes a free continental breakfast. Â The choice is basic but there's enough there for all tastes - boiled eggs, cold cut meats, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, bread and pastries. Â There's a coffee machine, which served surprisingly good coffee and a choice of apple or orange juice. Â I was perfectly happy with it and there was plenty of space in the breakfast lounge. Location Location is about 15 minutes walk from the main train station and 10 minutes from the main shopping area. Â There are side streets that seemed a little seedy but I never felt unsafe. Â There's a supermarket 2 minutes walk away if you want snacks or more drinks. Â Parking is also available near by. Overall I got this room for a decent rate and I was satisfied with the quality of the facilities and the location. Â Staff are very efficient and friendly. Â If I return to the city, I would definitely stay here again.
