GGLwannabe unfortunately EC261 do not apply for your onward flight from DOH even though the EU would like them to. Apparently there is a recent EU court ruling that rejects the wording 'Final destination' in EC261. Thus EC261 is valid for your flight out of the EU but not any further onward flights.
It seems compensation under EC261 is a minefield, but the more case law there is, the clearer it will become (does anyone have a link to that ruling?)
Anyway, that's all the more reason for belt and braces. I have just tried to see if it's possible to book that flight now, and was able to create a held-for-24 hours dummy booking, so maybe it's just a cock-up, rather than a conspiracy.
