Echoing what everybody else said, but also: after my last trip through the region, I looked back at the rates I got for all of the money I exchanged and all of the ATM withdrawals I did, and the cumulative overhead for all of it was in the range of $10-$20 across nearly a dozen transactions in three weeks.

Put in perspective, it seems like a pretty reasonable price to pay for the convenience and the ability to travel the world.
