Well it will usually cost you 42500 miles to fly to LAS outside reward flight sale periods so the maths won't add up most of the time. Plus I'd still consider £650 as too expensive for a trip to LAS these days. Add on that you don't earn miles or tier points on reward flights and there are very few scenarios where buying miles for the full cost of the trip makes sense.

Only exception to this is if you need a one way flight. Then it makes sense as revenue fares tend to be very high.
