Bear in mind from an operational perspective that the 380 if full, even with a 100 seats blocked will generate more revenue than the 777, its unlikely however that it will generate as much profit and I suspect it will be used as a loss leader. it also means EK have more flexibility with crews given the amount of 777 pilots they are haemorrhaging at the moment, 26 Captains left for Korean last month along with 17 FO's all of whom resigned on the same day

You're forgetting there are also 3 other flights ex-AKL to DXB. The nonstop service frees up space on the flights via Australia for higher yielding passengers ex-Australia.
