Sending packages here - expect to pay a handling fee if received by UPS.
1st time staying at the Hilton Portland - main hotel (not exec tower).
Booked: 2 DBL ACC STUDIO SUITE
Got: 2 double beds, handicap accessible, decent sized room, high floor,
* no upgrades for Gold status.... but then again I did not request one in the comments (I should have read this thread last week before checking in).
Used hhonor app to check in.
Requested : Digital Key for 4pm
Received : Digital key at noon.
* PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! ^ Got to drop bags off in the room instead of with concierge.
Had an Amazon package sent here. Got a bit of a run around.
ME: I'm expecting a package
FRONT DESK... (types in computer) oh yes. It's with our UPS store - up the stairs and at the end of the hallway.
UPS STORE sign @ 4pm: "If the door is locked during business hours i'm taking a 15 min break"
UPS STORE CLECK @ 430pm: How can i help you?
ME: I'm a guest and there should be a package under my name.
UPS STORE CLECK.... (types in computer) oh yes. It's with our bell desk.
ME: (back downstairs to the main lobby level).... sigh.... i'm expecting a package.
CONCIERGE (aka bell desk): let me see..... oh yes.... it's actually waiting for you with our UPS store....
ME: Can you PLEASE speak to your UPS clerk. I just came from there.
In the end - they found it and I had to pay UPS a separate "receiving" fee since the Amazon package landed with them and not with the hotel.
Compared to the upgrades I've received as Gold at the Marriott downtown + lounge access, the Hilton room i got is just OK + no lounge.
The digital key and early auto check in = AWESOME.
Amazon package receiving fee - feels like i just got nickle and dimed... enough to send me looking elsewhere next time i'm in town. I get that they are a convention hotel and use 3rd party shipping. It's just that their competitor down the road (the Marriott to be specific) has never charged me for receiving my Amazon boxes.
