Thanks Sean Peever for adding the additional info I provided via email when he asked if the onboard announcement specified the model, Samsung Note 7.

The exact wording the SD used while reading the message was "Samsung Galaxy Note 7".

Announcement was made in 3 languages.

As per posts in this thread, it still does answer our questions as to how the cabin crew are supposed to identify the devices.

BTW, HKG airport announcements were also made about not using or charging this device. I thought it was interesting to hear as I was walking through the terminal (airside). As there are many wall and table charging stations there, it is obviously relevant.
