1. Which stateroom depends on your value proposition. We have never cruised without having a balcony, which is what is a veranda stateroom.

2. We pick a stateroom which will not be under the pool deck area, because that adds a sound element when chairs are dragged. We have done Concierge Class, but now prefer Aqua, mainly because we really, really like the Blu Restaurant ambiance and (usually find acceptable) food.

3. Regarding the drink package, we are somewhat particular about our wines, usually consuming a $20-30 bottle as our home daily drinking wine. We find that the upgrade to the premium beverage package meets our basic needs, and if we want to consume a better glass of wine not on the package, one just pays an upcharge. This is not available in the standard alcohol beverage package. BTW, we like the beverage package because all the specialty coffee drinks and water you consume are included. Back to the wine: Since you have a large party, you might want to consider just buying by the bottle, if you all have the same tastes. Another factor: Each cabin can bring in two bottles of wine free of charge for consumption insuite.

5. There is no cost to sign up. That being said, there is very little benefit that comes with cruise loyalty programs.

You did not ask, but I will tell you we had a horrible experience on the Millennium. I'd suggest that you instead consider the Solstice, which is a much newer ship which does not have the myriad of problems that the older ship has.
