Would be taken aback if the staff didn't speak/understand English well. A bit overweight so wears a t-shirt when going into the pool and man-sandals. Wears Oakley sunglasses with the straps to keep them on his neck. Kids wouldn't appreciate/care if they were in Costa Rica, Thailand or Florida.

Andaz definitely had 50+ yr olds too, but overall guests skewed younger (25-40), more millennial, style conscious. Probably more oriented towards boutique experiences (though clearly it's a part of the Hyatt chain). Tries to speak Spanish to the staff and apologizes that they can't better speak the language of Costa Rica. May not be in great shape, but still comfortable enough to wear a fitted swimsuit. Wears Havaianas flip flops. Their kids eat more than fries and chicken fingers.

Again, that's not true of everyone, but if I had to extrapolate my limited time at both places and personify the clientele into a stereotype, that's how I'd do it.
This is the greatest - I know you're not trying to be judgy, just helpful, and I appreciate your candor. You also just totally sold me on the Andaz.

I'm booking a bday getaway for my gf and I there the week before Thanksgiving. We are 30-somethings, no kids, have a sense of style and adventure and looking forward to doing our best with our limited Spanish while in CR.

I'm reading back through the thread but has anyone had good experiences booking rain forest hikes or zipline adventures in the area? Is it a far drive to those types of things from Papagayo?
