Oh yeah, alarm being set is the WORST. I do like to have an illuminated clock in the room in case I wake up during the night and want to know what time it is without having to fumble with my phone which is probably charging across the room due to no outlet near the bed (not an issue at the NY Sheraton).
Edit: And I should add it's not only this property with clock trouble. I'd wager that at least half of the Starwood properties we stay at the clock is more than 5 minutes off.
You just answered your own question.
The issue is clock maintenance, not whether or not to have a clock in the room.
When rooms are cleaned after quest checks out, alarms must be turned off.
Daylight savings time is when all clocks need to be reset.
Simple operating procedures, but frequently overlooked.
