Since we're rehashing opinions..

When I was based in HKG, I preferred them night time departures exNorthAmerica (in fact all exSFO then)- trying everything in the book, and some outside, to stay awake/get through a day's work upon arrival- howsoever well/badly I slept (used to be Y, occasional J for me back then).

Since I transit to SIN now (and almost always in J/F), the daytime departures work best for me- (typical flight routine is to get a few hrs sleep upon pushback/immediately after takeoff, and enjoy the rest of the flight),land 7pmish, quick shower/transit to CX715@8pmish where I force myself awake, and sleep in my bed 1-2am-ish for a full day the next morning.

Also know of some here, who prefer things the other way round, sleep well on the plane transpac, head to work from Changi, and get a decent half day's work done.

I have the luxury of time now, so prefer to book the next day's daytime departure than the post dinner 'red eye'. All depends on personal choice and where you're headed to on arrival.
