I am a regular flyer on 883 - have done probably 40+ trips in Y, and about 10+ trips in J.
As most have said here, it's really a personal preference.

My routine's pretty regular - I'll have the meal, then head to the restroom to clean up, then pop a sleeping pill and get some shuteye.
Usually I'll get about 4-5 hrs sleep. 7 if I'm lucky (that's where flying J really helps, w/lie-flat seats).
I'll wake just in time for the bfast service, then squeeze in a movie, before touchdown.

I like this particular red-eye, simple because it gets me into HKIA early ~6am.
Plenty of time to catch connecting flights to final destinations. And, if you have lounge access, plenty of time to get a hot shower and some hot food at the lounge too.
