I'm facing a similar problem. Happily I haven't had to go west from London for some considerable time. Now I've got to get to YVR. I'm currently marvelling at how limited my choices are, and how much some very second or third rate carriers want for a ticket (I'm looking at you BA and AC). The bearable option appears to be BA...or KLM ex AMS.
