Actual priority criteria are established in the contract of carriage, as they are for all U.S. carriers. Nobody needs to guess or assume.

Interesting! I didn't know that GM and above get IDB preference, but FO not. That is a (rarely needed) benefit of GM I hadn't realized ... but I haven't been on a IDB'd flight in years. Even volunteer requests have been pretty limited in my travel patterns.
Oh, and in a recent flight search, I did click thru unwittingly to a Basic fare and read a bit about it before backing out. I think read that DL won't place you on another airline if you are IDB'd on a Basic fare. Anyone else notice that? I suppose they still
could, but with that language they can refuse a request to interline (these days DL has pretty limited interline options anyway).
