Something similar happened to me on a flight from HKG and I told the agent I'm not using IFE anyway so I'd prefer to keep the seat. The BP had an appropriate note (where op up would typically show) - something to the effect that I was aware IFE was not working and no comp was due. It was 64K so I was happy to keep it!
