I have no idea what it is like now, but back in the 90s and early 2000s, in my Gold years, it appeared to me that very few of the pax on BA F to and from Asia were actually folk who paid for F. The biggest identifiable group were BA staff. The next group were invol U. Or whatever they call it now.
Club was too big to tell who were pax, who were staff, and who were upgrades. So you just never know.
As for the AV, I agree with the comments above. It can decide to work/not work, whenever it fancies it. It has been like that since before they introduced the individual choice. I was once shown a wiring diagram, in about 2003. My reaction was great pleasure that I was not a technician for an airline.
