They have already gained traction and they can't be shut down (esp. the overseas ones). In fact, the one I mentioned is out of stock until October. They are being advertised everywhere - I last saw a full page ad on Travel & Leisure magazine.

Yes, you can pay the slightly higher price to submit your own design, which can be a copy of the JPMR card design. You can also replicate your bank card so that it looks like the JPM debit card, if you're so inclined. There's no way for the bank to find out you did this (it's not like they ever ask you to mail in your physical card before resolving a fraud claim), so you wouldn't need to worry about losing fraud protection.

Agreed. They are impressed by the weight and not the text. Even if they read it, they don't know the difference between JP Morgan and Chase. This is because of the extensive brand dilution that has occured over the years where the two are used synonymously and in one phrase, e.g. JPMorgan Chase & Co. or www.jpmorganchase.com. No "normal" person knows the difference.

I can see your point but it's a self-inflicted wound stemming from brand dilution. They gave CPCs access to a JPM branded Palladium for years. The Chase website (http://www.chase.com/online/private_...ge-banking.htm) itself says ""Chase Private Clients can choose from any ... J.P. Morgan credit card." It's their prerogative to do whatever they want now, but they have a history of bad brand management, mixing JPM with Chase. Maybe they are trying to fix it. But's its next to impossible when your company is called JPMorgan Chase & Co.
