I also found out they hard way that their web system can't actually ticket some tickets. I bought LAX-JNB (of course connecting in LHR) return in UC. The purchase went through fine. I was able to select seats, got email saying reservation was confirmed, etc. The email said it could take up to 24 hours to ticket, which is nothing unusual with any airline, but that would get an email when it did. Next week go (it was a little over 7 days before departure when I bought ticket) to checkin at the airport. They tell me I never paid for the ticket. Agent tried to get me to pay a walk-up fare. I point out yes I did, and that it even let me select seats. They had to call a support line. Apparently their web system won't ticket any ticket where the taxes/fees is more then $999. Anything over that has to be manually processed. They said UC tickets from US-JNB are the most common for this. He said these type of tickets are a common problem and that their new system is supposed to fix this issue. I asked why isn't the user prompted to call, or why didn't VS call when it didn't ticket. He had no answer for that question.
Also found out that on a $4k UC ticket LAX-JNB, that the YQ was equal to the fare. The fare is only $2k but the carrier imposed surcharge is also $2k for the flights.
