I used EasyCheck-in Online on united.com to check in myself and a companion for a flight later today. Turns out that a part of the second boarding pass prints on the first page (i.e. with mine), so in trying to fix this, I clicked on the "Printing tips" option in the top left corner of the page. I got this set of "helpful" hints:
Printing suggestions
If you are experiencing a problem printing your documents, please review the following tips:
- Make sure your printer is plugged into an electrical outlet
- Make sure your printer is turned on.
- Make sure your printer is plugged into your computer with the appropriate cables.
- Make sure your printer has a sufficient amount of toner.
- Make sure you have enough paper in your printer
- If you are on a Local Area Network (LAN), are you printing to the correct printer.
- A .75 inch margin on the right, left, top and bottom is required for the boarding document to print on one page.
- United Airlines uses a 2D bar code which looks significantly different from a traditional 1D bar code. This bar code will appear on the upper right corner of the boarding pass and the middle of the boarding pass.
Is it just me, or isn't this just rude and condescending? I know that I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but if I'm smart enough to navigate through united.com's horribly clumsy customer interface, do I need to be told to make sure that my printer is plugged in to an electrical outlet in the very first bullet point? Maybe it's Friday and I'm just hyper-sensitive after a rough week.
