Agreed, it really is quite a poor location. You can still walk to things, but it's far. I have stayed a half dozen times at Holiday apartments in the Mantra Triology as well as Aquarius. Both are good options and within walking distance of attractions. Alternatively, if you're divers, I would recommend staying out on this boat for a few nights. Quite a pleasant trip and we did Helicopter transfers and the VIP package as well.

Look for somewhere to stay south of say, Florence street, and there are lots more things a short walk away.
